Chalastra gets gas supplied right on year-end

EDA THESS welcomes the New Year in absolute consistency to its 2018 schedule and plan for network expansion to new areas, with the supply of one more area, namely the Community of Chalashtra, Municipality of Delta. The event took place on Friday, 28.12.2018, at the Central Square of Chalastra, co-organized by EDA THESS and the Municipality of Delta.

The event was attended by Mr. S. Famellos, Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy; Mr. A. Tzitzikostas, Regional Governor of Central Macedonia; Mr. E. Fotopoulos, Mayor of Delta; Mr. V. Bouras, Chairman of the EDA THESS Board of Directors; and Mr. L. Bakouras, General Manager of EDA THESS.

Mr. Bakouras, General Manager of EDA THESS, said that the Municipality of Delta was joined the gas network in 2000 with the connection of Sindos, the Industrial Area of Thessaloniki, where currently 78 industries are supplied. There followed the Communities of Sindos and Kalohori in 2009, Diavata in 2011, Nea Magnisia in 2015 and Chalastra in 2018. In the Municipality of Delta, 62,794m of low pressure network (4bar) and 39,197m of medium pressure network (19bar) have been constructed to date. He also underlined that in the Thessaloniki region, a total of 3.1m tonnes of CO2 and 8,800 tonnes of other pollutants did not burden the environment during the period 2000-2018 (for the industry 930,000 tonnes of CO2 and 5,100 tonnes of other pollutants).

As it was pointed out, for the period 2019-2023, investments amounting to €1.3m are provided for the Community of ​​Chalastra. Today, 6 municipal buildings have been gas connected and 650 applications have already been lodged.

He also added that the Company respects both the legislative and regulatory framework, abiding by the new areas supply plan, maintaining a high penetration rate and lower distribution tariffs, building network infrastructures and delivery points, diligently supplying and securing network operation, supporting all Distributors, ensuring its operational independence and thus eventually its sustainability.

Last but not least, he said that for 2019, EDA THESS aim is economic efficient investments for the benefit of shareholders, consumers and company staff as well. He also underlined the importance of strictly complying with the regulatory framework (Distribution Network Management Code), as well as the continuous staff training to optimize its services, always guided by the values ​​of transparency, impartiality, professionalism and cooperation. As he said, the goal of EDA THESS is to remain a leader in gas distribution.

On its part, the Corporate Affairs Division underlined the general principles governing the Company activities, namely equal treatment of Distribution Users and Final Customers as far as information and data management is concerned. Its operation in full compliance with the legislative and regulatory framework of the energy market was also stressed.

Both state and local authorities welcomed the integrity of the EDA THESS organizational structure, the technical training of its staff and its consistency towards its commitments – characteristics rendering the Company a model of operation, with regard to the high quality of the services provided, as well as the safety standards maintained.

Mr. Bakouras, General Manager of EDA THESS, concluded by thanked the Ministry of Environment and Energy and in particular Mr. S. Famellos, Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, for adopting the technical regulation, the RAE President and Plenum for the adoption of the regulatory framework, and the Region of Central Macedonia for contributing €15m in the 2019-2023 Company Development Plan.

The supply of the areas of Lagadas, Epanomi – Michaniona, Koufalia, Neo Rusio and Chalastra in Thessaloniki, as well as Omorfochori, in the Municipality of Kileler, Tyrnavos, Kalampaka, and Elassona in the region of Thessaly, is a landmark in the gas pipeline route and at the same time part of the ambitious and successful 2018 EDA THESS plan, contributing to the change the country’s energy map.
