EDA THESS - € 140 million investments over the next 5 years

Τhe conference on the new landscape in the energy market organized by Voria.gr on February 7th in Thessaloniki, was attended by the General Manager of  EDA THESS, Mr. Leonidas Bakouras.

In his speech, Mr. Bakouras noted that both the “Green European Agreement” recently announced by the European Commission and the “National Energy and Climate Plan” adopted by the government, shaping up the new era for the country’s energy sector, accelerating the transition to “cleaner” energy sources.

These developments, Mr. Bakouras stressed, are rapidly enhancing the importance of natural gas in the country’s energy mix, as it is the most environmentally friendly fuel than any conventional fuel, with zero sulfur emissions and significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions, that guarantees a steady and uninterrupted power supply at competitive cost.

 

EDA THESS, as Mr. Bakouras asserted, successfully confronts the challenges of the new era. It has an impressive distribution network of 2.426 km with 350 thousand activated meters (in total ~470 thousand nationwide) in the areas of its License, with the lowest distribution tariffs in Greece, while taking advantage of modern technologies matching Europe’s leading energy companies. At the same time, EDA THESS remains steadily profitable, sharing high dividends to the shareholders, including the Greek State.

 

Mr. Bakouras emphasized the new ambitious Company’s Development Plan for the period 2020 – 2024, as recently approved by its shareholders and investments over € 140 million are foreseen, with which the natural gas penetration will exceed 70% and activated meters will surpass 450 thousand to the Licensed Areas. He stressed that EDA THESS invests in high quality network infrastructure and in the completion of the digital transformation within the next two years, while enhancing the secure and continuous distribution and maintaining low construction costs.

With these investments, the General Manager noted, that EDA THESS is establishing itself at the top of the country’s energy pyramid, contributing to the achievement of the country’s environmental goals and the sustainable growth of local communities, through the continued reduction of the energy cost of the industrial and commercial units, but also providing safe energy to households and businesses in Thessaloniki and Thessaly.

 

The Company’s success over time, explained Mr. Bakouras, is due to the support of DEPA and ENI shareholders, stable and effective management, strict adherence to the regulatory framework and efficient cooperation with the authorities and bodies. He also emphasized the Company’s know how and the focus on the human resources through the continuous education and training. He stressed the adoption of a streamlined operating model as well as targeted investments which realized with private-economic criteria and with priority in new technologies.
