PRESS RELEASE

EDA THESS HAS INSTALLED A NATURAL GAS DECOMPRESSOR IN LAGKADAS

The first compressed natural gas (CNG) decompressor was installed in Thessaloniki region and in particular in Lagkadas, as part of the Distribution Network of the Gas Distribution Company Thessaloniki - Thessaly S.A. (EDA THESS).

The CNG decompressor of Lagkadas has been designed to meet the highest European safety standards, using the latest cutting-edge gas technology as a standard of installation and environmental application.

In particular, the CNG decompressor delivers a maximum capacity of 1.800 cubic meters per hour, fully covering the city of Lagkadas and the natural gas Distribution Network that will be developed in the future. In addition, the operation of 2 independent input lines and continuous flow and pressure measurement with simultaneous alarm operation is provided for the security of supply, while it is also connected to SCADA telecontrol system of EDA THESS. It is noted that a heater operates in the decompressor to ensure continuous supply as well as a volume balancer of 1.000Nm3 in order to cover any potential demand.

While construction works of the 5.3 km natural gas distribution network in Lagkada have been completed, the supply of the city of Lagkadas is expected to be completed by EDA THESS in January 2018, with a prerequisite for the finalization of the regulatory framework by RAE to supply remote areas with compressed natural gas (CNG).

In the above context, EDA THESS’ General Manager, Mr. Leonidas Bakouras, accompanied by Company executives, visited the Mayor of Lagkadas Mr. Yannis Karagiannis. They discussed the next steps for the supply of Lagkadas with natural gas and signed the Connection Contracts with the natural gas Distribution Network for 10 Lagkada’s Municipal Buildings in total.

EDA THESS’ General Manager, Mr. Bakouras, said that the installation of the CNG decompressor in Lagkadas is a pioneering technology for the greek state and that Lagkadas will be the first region in Thessaloniki, which will be supplied with compressed natural gas. From his part, the Mayor of Lagkadas, Mr. Karagiannis, pointed out that the close cooperation of the Municipal Authority with EDA THESS has produced results and that the arrival of natural gas in Lagkadas will contribute to the development of the area and will give the opportunity to citizens and businesses of the region to use a more economical, safe and environmentally friendly fuel.

At the end of the meeting, the executives of EDA THESS and the Mayor of Lagkadas, went to the CNG decompressor site and confirmed the progress of the works.
