Construction works to reinforce and upgrade EDA THESS gas distribution network in the Municipalities of Pylaia Chortiatis and Thermi in Thessaloniki

According to the approved Development Program 2021-2025 of EDA THESS, works for the reinforcement and upgrading of the distribution network are being implemented between Municipal communities of Thermi and Exohi. It is a medium pressure steel pipeline interconnector of about 14km long, which aims to strengthen the capacity of natural gas networks in the wider area of Eastern Thessaloniki and to create a ring, which will ensure an alternative supply point for the area.

Taking into account the high consumptions and the increased needs of the residents of the area, the implementation of the construction works is considered absolutely necessary, as the expansion of the distribution network will cover a large part of the area, enhancing the security of natural gas supply. Works are in full progress and the first phase is expected to be completed within 15 days.

This is a large construction work, which will benefit more and more consumers living in these municipalities. However, due to the inherent complexity of the specific works, the geographical peculiarities of the area but also the weather conditions, there is a temporary nuisance. During the construction process, the most important difficulties occur along the road of Thermi – Panorama, due to the narrowness of the road, the increased traffic, the slope of the road, the traffic from the passing roads but also the high speeds that the vehicles develop. EDA THESS emphasizes primarily on the safety of construction works, staff active in the field, citizens and drivers of the area.

In this context, a meeting was held in the field between the General Manager of EDA THESS, Mr Leonidas Bakouras, executives of the Company and the Mayor of Pylaia – Chortiatis, President of the Regional Association of Municipalities of Central Macedonia, Mr Ignatios Kaitezidis.

On behalf of the General Manager, there was a commitment that after the completion of the construction works, a detailed re-inspection of the entire project will be carried out through a joint autopsy with the technical service of the Municipality, to assess and restore any damage or incomplete immediately, maintaining thus the highest levels of safety.

EDA THESS maintains excellent cooperation and continuous dialogue with the municipal authority, with the aim of creating maximum benefits from the use of natural gas, through the implementation of such an important construction work.
