Installation of the first decompressor of compressed natural gas (CNG) in Tyrnavos
The first natural gas decompressor in Greece was installed for the supply of Tyrnavos by the Gas Distribution Company Thessaloniki – Thessalia S.A. (EDA THESS). The General Manager of EDA THESS Mr. Leonidas Bakouras along with the company’s executives, met with the Mayor of Tyrnavos Mr. Panagiotis Sarchosis, to ensure the progress of the supply works in Tyrnavos with this pioneer, for the Greek State, compressed natural gas (CNG) method.
The construction works of 5,9 kilometers of natural gas distribution network, as it was foreseen, were completed in November 2017. EDA THESS has started the works and installed the natural gas decompressor (CNG).
The works concerning the above prosses are meant to be completed by EDA THESS until January 2018. To supply the network, the regulatory framework by Regulatory Authority of Energy, which will allow the development of natural gas in remote areas, must be issued.
Thereafter, Mr. Bakouras and Mr. Sarchosis went to the town hall of Tyrnavos were the connection contracts for 11 public buildings that will be supplied with natural gas in Tyrnavos, were signed. The mayor of Tyrnavos Mr. Sarchosis, mentioned that the connection of Public Buildings with the natural gas distribution network, will contribute in minoring the Local Authority’s costs which can be achieved by such actions that have a direct economic effect, but at the same time contribute to the reduction of pollutants emitted to the environment. Furthermore, he added that the arrival of natural gas in Tyrnavos will enable households and businesses in the region to benefit from a more economical and ecological fuel. Mr. Bakouras stressed that the installation of the natural gas decompressor is an important step for the supply of the city of Tyrnavos.
Meeting of EDA THESS with the Mayor of Elassona
In addition, Mr. Bakouras and company executives met with Mayor of Elassona Mr. Evangelou N. regarding the beginning of the expansion of the natural gas network. In December, network expansion works began and part of the initial network design was completed. At the beginning of 2018, the core expansion projects will be completed and it is foreseen to supply the distribution network in the first half of the year and after the installation of the decompressor so that consumers benefit from the use of natural gas.
