Supply ceremony of the expansion of the natural gas distribution network in Filiro, Exochi and Chortiatis
The supply ceremony of the expansion of the gas distribution network in the areas of Filiro, Chortiatis and Exochi of the Municipality of Pilea - Chortiatis was held today in the presence of the Deputy Minister of the Environment and Energy, Mr. Socrates Famelos, the Regional Governor of Central Macedonia, Mr. Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the former Minister - MP of Thessaloniki, Mr. Theodoros Karagoglou, Mayor of Pilrea - Chortiatis Mr. Ignatios Kaitezidis, the Chairman of the Board of Directors. Mr. Venetios Bouras, and the General Manager of Thessaloniki-Thessaly Gas Distribution Company, Mr. Leonidas Bakouras.
The flame of the natural gas, which symbolizes the expansion of the network in the area of Chortiatis, was turned on by the host Mayor of Pilea - Chortiatis Mr. Kaitezidis, the Regional Governor of Central Macedonia, Mr. Tzitzikostas, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Mr. Famelos and the administration of EDA THESS.
Mr. Famelos stressed that in the last two years a great effort has been made in order for the surrounding area of Thessaloniki to be supplied with natural gas, which, thanks to the consistently and without delays cooperation between the Greek State and the Private Sector who cooperate within the framework of EDA THESS and they are a standard for the service needs of Greek society.
He has also referred to the program of new expansions that have been decided in association with EDA THESS, indicating that the company's investments exceed the 100 million euros and mentioned the state's desire to reduce the emission of gaseous pollutants.
The Regional Governor of Central Macedonia, Mr. Apostolos Tzitzikostas, referred to the substantial participation of the Region in the expansion of the natural
gas network in area of Thessaloniki with the allocation of 15 million euros from European programs for the co-financing of the infrastructure.
He even pointed out that another € 19 million of European programs have already been approved so that the benefits of natural gas, the most economical and environmentally friendly energy product could be enjoyed by the citizens of all the capitals of the prefectures and major cities of Central Macedonia.
Welcoming the natural gas in the area of Chortiatis, Mayor of Pilea – Chortiatis, Mr. Ignatios Kaitezidis warmly thanked all of those who contributed to the fact that natural gas reaches the northern parts of the municipality, which, moreover, has - as he said - more need due to the weather conditions in these areas during the winter months, five years earlier than it had been planned.
He praised the efforts that EDATHESS made for this purpose, referring separately to its general management and to its staff, who made every effort for the rapid gasification of the area.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of EDA THESS Mr. Venetios Bouras, stressed that the way in which EDA THESS operates should exemplify many utilities, emphasizing the importance of its management and its personnel in meeting the company's goals and timetables.
The General Manager of EDA THESS, Mr. Leonidas Bakouras, pointed out that the interest of the citizens in the areas of Filiro, Exochi and Chortiatis is already high, as more than 1.200 applications have already been filed, of which so far 150 connection contracts have been signed, and it is estimated that within five years, the 60% of the population will be supplied with natural gas.
According to the planning of EDA THESS and in cooperation with the Municipal Authority, the construction and gasification of the expansion of a low-pressure natural gas network of 14.230-meter with a budget of 1,2 million € has been completed, giving benefits to the households that use natural gas, commercial consumers and public buildings. At the same time, further expansions of the natural gas network, which take place according to the recorded interest of the citizens, are in progress
He pointed out that the company's objective is to invest in the expansion of the natural gas network in the areas of Thessaloniki for the next five years, reaching 59.8 million euros, while the construction of a low-pressure network (4 bar) 205 km and 5 km of Medium pressure network (19 bar) for the same period 2018 – 2022 will also be
done. Referring to the whole of Thessaloniki, he stressed that the number of connection contracts equals to 220.387 while the number of activated contracts is 212.129.
Earlier, the 2nd Kindergarten of Fyliro was supplied with natural gas.
